BAROLIN STREET CHURCH PHARMACY

January 2017

Built in 1926…

On April 6 2016, fire ripped through one of the most recognisable buildings in Bundaberg. The Barolin Street Church Pharmacy. The fire completely destroyed the historic building with the lining of the walls been totally burnt through; the frames of the walls had extensive fire damage and the contents of the building, completely gone. The extent of the damage could be seen from the outside of the building.

In January 2017, the decision was made to have the fire destroyed historic building demolished. It was with a heavy heart that we at Lammi Brothers accepted the job. Piece by piece, brick by brick, the demolition began. To begin we had to remove all asbestos from the building to ensure the safety and well being for not only our workers, but for the general public. Once all the asbestos containing materials were removed, removal of the rear internal walls and the roof was done.

As the building was made from a form of concrete block, some hand demolition was required before we could use the heavy machinery. Excavators were used to pull the remaining walls and building-front down into a pile of rumble in where the centre of the building once was. Clean up crew then removed the rubble leaving nothing but a dirt block, ready and waiting for the next big or small business to grow.
